While installing SQL Server 2016 you might have noticed that Management Studio is not installed by default. In the earlier versions prior 2016, we were able to install management studio during SQL Server installation by selecting “management tools” option as below.

But starting from SQL Server 2016, we would not find this option and instead comes as a separation link option on the installation screen as shown below.

Clicking on the link will take you to Microsoft download page. Most of the production servers will not have access to internet, hence use the link below to download the .EXE file and copy it to an accessible location on the server.


The installation process will install .NET 4.6.1 and Visual Studio 2015 Shell (Isolated) components. After the installation a reboot is required.
